AUGUST 2011

CYBORG..CYBORG..CYBORG

What can we say but THANK YOU to Professor Cyborg for the seminar on the 20th!
It was extremely informative and the techniques demonstrated were incredible.  I think we all left
more motivated than ever to change our games and open our minds to some different techniques and
personal philosophies.  I think the quoute of the day for me personally was

"You should practice jiu-jitsu to become a BLACK BELT!  Nothing more, nothing less.
The BLACK BELT is only the beginning...if you are here just to be here and not become
a BLACK BELT, then why are you here.  That should be your goal..."

There was a lot more shared with us all but we all have a reason for being where we are RIGHT NOW!
There are a ton of what I call "Perpetual Blue Belts."  Those who started but found an excuse to stop.
DON'T BE THAT PERSON...commit yourself to the goal of becoming a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt.
The road is long and full of ups and downs but when you get there...I'll let you write your own story!

Pictures are coming but for now check out facebook/jbmbjj.

The schedule is changing on the 1st of September.  PLEASE get your copy at the Academy.

PROMOTIONS

Starting off the month of May with some promotions....

Jordan turns 16 and receives his much deserved BLUE BELT!!!!

"It is always a tremendous honor when your sons or daughters follow you in your footsteps.
In my case, both my sons (Brian and Jordan) are practitioners of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Both are currently Blue Belts in this art and have very bright futures.  I am truly blessed
and grateful for them AND for my grandson Zyir who is also training in our "Jr." Scorpions
class AND my youngest niece, Danielle who just recently started training with us!  The
whole family is training in BJJ...nice.

Left to Right:  Coach Webb, Professor Brian and Coach Kirby

Coach Kirby aka the "Jiu-Jitsu Panda" received his BROWN BELT May 3rd.

There was also several other students who received stripes and belts during the ceremony
on the 3rd of May.

Coaches Haywood Reeder and Eric Reyes receiving stripes for their Hard-work!
Coach Dan Kelly also received a stripe on his Blue Belt.

Mike Steve and James Kirby go solid ORANGE!!!!

One of the hardest workers in the Youth Program...Madison Trotman receives a stripe!

Dalyn and Demarco Woody receives promotions as well as our STRAIGHT "A" student Mathieu Colon.

Joshua Leek receives a promotion as well...

Enjoy some photos from the training session..

Nice group shot!

APRIL 2011

WEBB! WEBB!  WEBB!  WEBB!

One update for us...Coach Webb competed in the No-Gi Division and loses by
advantage after a 0 to 0 score.  Remember, Webb is competing at the Black Belt level and
is gaining some invaluable experience.  We are waiting on results from the Gi division
which is currently underway and will keep you posted!

BIG THANKS!!!

We had a GREAT time training with Professors Mike and John from Delaware.  Our friends brought their
students down and we all had a good time.  Thanks to Professor Larry (where's Waldo) Norman for
stopping in and participating as well.  All of the Black Belts taught a technique or two and the training began
after that.  Also, we celebrated our 4th Year Anniversary!!!!

We proved a lot of people wrong for sure!  We made our 4th year and we are stronger than
before.  We have some good things planned for the rest of the year...Stay tuned.

Coach Jonavin Webb is in Abu Dhabi competing in the Invitational Tournament there.  A 18 hour flight
from NY to the U.A.E.  We are extremely proud of him as he has accomplished so much in such a
short period of time.  Coach has a tremendous future in this Martial Art and this is just the beginning
for him.

Enjoy the photos...remember we have videos of some of our training sessions on facebook.
Search Brian McPherson and send the friend request.

Teaching our Youth Class...Coach Kelly watching the matches...

(Shawn and Winston practicing their takedowns)

Making the announcements to the Youth class participants.  Tournaments are fast approaching
and we anticipate taking a large number down in May.  Parents, please sign your
children up at the Academy so we can prepare those who want to compete.

MARCH 2011

NEW BLUE BELT AT THE ACADEMY!!!!

Caleb Cooper received his much deserved BLUE BELT in class last night.
CONGRATS to Caleb.

YOUTH CLASS

Youth Class members have been pushing themselves very hard over the last couple of weeks.
We are extremely proud and happy with their efforts...

FUN DAY AT BIG LEAGUE DREAMS

I will have photos up shortly, but WHAT A GREAT TIME!  Thanks to ALL of the parents who came
out with the youngsters to participate and eat some of the goodies, which were absolutely delicious!

We were trying to have an injury free event but Mr. Standen trying to stretch a single into a double
injured his ankle.  We hope he is ok.  (It's only wiffle-ball)

Kids remember to get your designs in for the T-Shirt contest!!!!  The deadline is fast approaching.

GOODFIGHT RESULTS....3.12.2011

Thanks to ALL the competitors and the supporters who came out to cheer on our members.  It is always
a good time when everyone gives 110% on the mats.

FIRST UP....

Jake Cann

What can you say about the effort that this guy brought to the table!  WOW!

1st Place No-Gi
3rd Place Gi

Jake showed up and definitely left his mark on his division.  Outstanding "guard" work displayed
by the young Cann.  I am truly proud as we all are of Jake's effort and sportsmanship exhibited
during this tournament.  GOOD JOB JAKE!

Tim Scott

2nd Place No-Gi
2nd Place Gi

Tim had to compete in the upper weight class due to his size.  His competition, a 217 pound 13 year old!
That's right...217 pounds.  Tim fought him a total of 4 times in both the Gi and No-Gi divisions and came
away with two silver medals.  Outstanding!  Way to step up and fight Tim, remember size plays a role
in this art as well as the others, but in time...it won't matter.  I am happy that you chose to "TEST" yourself
when you didn't have to.  This my friend shows true heart and spirit.  CONGRATS!

Charlie Tiggett
Benjamin Baez
 "Caleb" Cooper

To the Adults from our program who competed but fell short of the medal rounds, Outstanding effort
displayed by all.  No one complains about the ending as long as there was full effort during the matches.
As always, there are things WE ALL have to work on, but getting out there on the mats is the hardest
challenge of them all.  Testing yourself against others takes tremendous heart, courage and
belief in the art of Jiu-Jitsu.  Thank you for testing yourselves in the arena.  More time to test
ourselves coming...

WEBB GOES BROWN!!!!

Jonavin Webb promoted to Brown Belt!!!

Coach has showed us all what hard work can do.  It is with great pleasure that I presented Coach with
his Brown Belt.  It is truly deserving of such a great talent and overall good person.

2.5.2011 ADCC EAST COAST PRO TRIALS

Coach Webb, Rahb Cook and Nick all competed at the ADCC trials this past weekend in Jersey City.
Arguably, one of the toughest group of Purple Belts assembled in one venue.  Jon came out on TOP in
his division with Rahb coming up the other side of the bracket securing second place.  EVERY match was
was tough!  Both guys then competed in the Absolute Division fighting against the other top 3 finishers
in the Purple Belt division and Jon came away with second place.

HUGE CONGRATS to Jon and the other competitors as they showed the world that there are some
very talented individuals and teams here as well.  Continued success to all.

gentlemen, obviously we are all proud of you representing our progam.

Paul was also awarded his BLUE BELT during class (1.18.11) and Kris received another stripe
on his belt as well.  Well deserved!  I will hopefully have some videos of their efforts uploaded to

NOVEMBER 2010

HONOR ROLL STUDENTS

We have to remember what we are trying to accomplish with the kids....
the development of young men and women both inside and outside of the classroom.
EXCELLENCE
in the classroom is equally if not more important than the training at the
academy.  We hopefully have played a part in their personal, physical, educational and emotional
development over the years.  We take pride in assisting our Youth members with their pursuit of
educational excellence.  So, we pay tribute to those who  sacrificed, studied and made the HONOR ROLL
at their respective schools for this first marking period!

Tiffany Douglass!!
Mathieu Colon

Ian Griswold
Joshua Leek

2nd ANNUAL TURKEY BOWL

The 2nd Annual Turkey Bowl was a good time.  We had a good representation from the school members
and we expect more to show next year!  The game ended in a tie...1-1.  Best of ALL, there
were NO INJURIES!  Everyone left the same way they came, just a little cold and wet due
to the snow and ice.  Picture perfect Football weather.
Enjoy the pictures...

Highlight of the Tournament:  The Leek Brothers took home 5 FIRST PLACE SWORDS!!!

Academy members traveled to Essex County College in Newark for two days of competition.
On November 20, our Adult members competed.   Tough day for the Adults, but the lessons
learned were extremely important.  Those who wish to compete must take a different approach
to training and preparation.  You cannot take lightly your opponent, no matter what division
you are in.  Novice, Beginner...DO NOT think that it will be any easier competing at these levels.
You never know the experience level of your competitor UNTIL the match begins!
BE PREPARED!!!

Johanner Belon
