There is a lot of information to update here as our Youth members have been extremely busy!!!

Team Members recently competed at the N.A.G.A. Tournament at the Essex County College in Newark, NJ
and the results were OUTSTANDING!  Several members also competed at the Goodfight tournament on
November 21, 2009 and the results are listed below...

Can you see our kids?  (Jamil, Ian, Davion and Dalyn)

Dalyn Woody takes 1st Place Gi and No-gi.

Coach Webb, Dalyn and Professor Brian

Jordan, Mike, Dalyn and Ado displaying their hard earned medals!

Jordan fought in the Expert Division against a 16yr old from Lloyd Irvin's camp.
He held his own in a tough match that went the distance.  Good Job Jordan on
taking 2nd place in his Division!

Ado Halkic also stepped up in his division competing against an older and heavier
competitor.  Way to step up Ado!  As a result, he was awarded Co-1st place in his
Gi Division.

Mike Steve competed and came away with 3rd place in his Gi Division.

James Kirby competed and secured 2nd Place in his Gi and No-Gi Divisions.  Good
job James for continuing to compete.  You got right back into the game and showed
tremendous spirit and determination.

Jamil Kelly and Dalyn Woody

Jamil Kelly had a HUGE day taking 1st Place in the No-Gi Division and 2nd Place
in the Gi.  Outstanding matches in both divisions!  Congrats Jamil!

Ian Griswold stepped up and secured 3rd Place in his Gi and No-Gi Divisions.
Ian is turning out to be quite a competitor as his skills have definitely gotten better.
(Mom and Dad, I need some pictures....)

Erik Wojo competed as well and came away with a medal for showing outstanding sportsmanship.
Good Job Erik, I am PROUD of how you represented our program!  Thank You.

Last but not least, Davion Lewis competed for the first time and came away with 2nd Place
in his No-Gi Division.  He then competed in an exhibition match and although he came up

extremely proud of your effort.

YOUTH CLASS PHOTO'S

Our Youth members have been training extremely hard and just completed their Quarterly Testing.
All members gave 100% during the testing and we all were very impressed with this first test.

1st Picture:  Ian and Anthony testing / 2nd Picture:  Davion and Shelby testing their takedown skills

All smiles after their testing phase is over!

Youth Team members photo after the 1st Quarterly Testing.  You all are progressing extremely well.  Keep
up the Hard work because it shows.

Remember:  Take care of yourselves in and out of school.  The winter and flu season is upon us.  If you feel sick, inform
your parents immediately!  Stay home for a few days and get well before resuming training.  Our next tournament is
scheduled for November 15th, 2009 ~ N.A.G.A. Championships at the Essex County College in Newark, NJ.

Sign-ups are currently underway!  You can pre-register on-line or fill out the registration form at the school.
Either way, see Professor or one of the coaches BEFORE you register.  We want to make sure that everyone
goes into the correct division.

NAGA TOURNAMENT RESULTS...

Our Youth competitors are really having fun at these tournaments and during
practice.  The results speak for themselves as the medal count climbs again...

TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Ian Griswold ~ 2nd Place No-gi
Jamil Kelly ~ 3rd Place Gi
Zaria Carpenter ~ 1st Place Gi
James Kirby ~ 1st Place Gi and No-Gi Divisions!
Michael Steve ~ 2nd Place Gi
Peter Ryan ~ 1st Place Blue Belt Gi

WOW!!!

There are some very tough and technical kids coming up in this art and we have to
continue to push our kids who wish to compete.  The Saturday "competitors" class
has its purpose.  I think the results speak for themselves...

OUTSTANDING JOB Ian on securing a 2nd place finish in your first
competition!  Ian submitted his first opponent on his way to 2nd.

(From left to right:  Ian Griswold; Michael Steve and Jamil Kelly)

Next up, Zaria Carpenter...two tough matches to secure
1st place!  After her second match concluded, it was determined
that the boy who she fought should not have been allowed to compete
in the female division, so Zaria was provided with the first place medal.

(pictures coming soon)

Jamil Kelly, like we all knew came out fast and furious.  I can see some
good things happening for Jamil in this art.  He has a HUGE competitive
heart...just like the old man!

(Jamil and Dan Kelly at the NAGA tournament)

Michael Steve came back again, being one of the veterans of the crew.
Mike came away with another medal in the Gi division.  Should have
2 medals....next time we won't turn down the opportunity!
Competitors don't do that!

James Kirby came away with two first place finishes.  James showed
true sportsmanship; technique and control during his matches.
Outstanding effort James, we are all happy and proud of you!

Peter Ryan brought up the rear of the program and had to climb
a mountain to get there.  Pete went against a tough 270 pound
competitor to take gold in his division.  Pete prevailed on points
after a late push by the Big Man to pass his guard.  Nice Job Pete!

"Little" Anthony Gadjerowicz competed and although he did not place this
time, he showed us all what heart is about.

Anthony at the beginning did not want to compete and we were ok with
that.  A few minutes before his division was about to begin, Anthony said
he wanted to compete.  And he did just that...a tough match against a good
opponent.  Anthony fought like a CHAMPION!  Amazing what can be learned
from a six year old!

Thank You Anthony!

I need pictures if you have them.  We will be updating the site in a couple of days
so please get me pictures and videos.  Thank you to the competitors and especially
the parents for bringing the kids out to the tournament.  And a BIG THANKS for
allowing me the opportunity to teach your children the Art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Prof. Brian

You guys make it rough on us "Professional" photographers!

I am glad that we are all having FUN learning some new and exciting techniques.
Remember, do not get frustrated when learning something new.  That's why we practice,
practice, practice and practice.  It takes time, allow us to teach you.  We all learn at our own
pace, everyone will not be promoted at the same time.  It will come, be patient and committed to
training each and every class!

STUDENTS AND PARENTS:  TAKE NOTE

After the NAGA tournament,  we will be videotaping one of the Youth Classes in it's entirety.
I will inform all of the students and parents of the date of the taping as we will have it
on our website and Youtube for all to view.

Please tell your friends about it and allow them the opportunity to view the class.  Hopefully,
one or two of your friends will decide to join us and become part of our family.  We are
going to do some video testimonials as well.  Parents get ready!

YOUTH TRAINING

Our Youth members are getting ready for the Goodfight Tournament on July 11 in Cherry Hill.
It should be a good tune-up for the NAGA Battle at the Beach in Wildwood, NJ on Aug. 1 and 2.

OUTSTANDING YOUTH

As the Youth Program grows we must remain focused on what we are trying
to do with our younger members.  First and foremost, we must stress good behavior,
good grades, respect towards fellow students, classmates and above all respect for the
PARENTS!

As the school year comes to an end I am extremely happy and proud to announce that
student Michael Steve made the HONOR ROLL by receiving 7 A's and 1 B!

Mike stopped by during class on Tuesday in order to show us the
awards that he received.  Now that we know you can do it, you have to keep
it going...remember no excuses!

"OUTSTANDING EFFORT MICHAEL!"

YOUTH PROGRAM PHOTO'S

The Youth program is progressing at a good pace.  Our kids are learning how to protect
themselves and having fun.  We are also happy about the way our Saturday program

Push ups...Push ups...and more Push ups!

Our Youth members participating in Randori training.  The NEW Saturday format is
going to allow for more training opportunities.  FUN...FUN...FUN!

NEW SATURDAY FORMAT

We were extremely proud of our Youth members who competed at the recent N.A.G.A.
event held this past weekend in Newark, New Jersey.  There was a large number
of Youth team competing and this alone has shown us that we must enhance our
training in order to stay competitive in this environment.

For those students who wish to compete, we are going to implement a more tournament
style class which will be held on Saturday's at the normal class time.  This class will feature:

~No-Gi instruction (Rash Guard Shirt and Grappling Shorts)
~More time for "LIVE" supervised Randori sessions
~More instruction on takedowns and defenses from Advantage Wrestling Instructors
~Increased conditioning drills from Coach Jeremy Reid

Although we faired well at the tournament, it clearly showed that we must do more to
allow our kids the opportunity to succeed at these tournaments, not just participate.
We will inform the parents when the class will focus on No-Gi instruction instead of
Gi to allow the kids to be prepared.  This new class format will go into effect on:

Saturday, April 18, 2009 at  11:00 AM

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to speak with me or one of the
Coaches before or after class.

Professor Brian

YOUTH CLASS PHOTO'S

(4.2.09)

Our Youth members are starting to understand that conditioning is a BIG part of
martial arts training.  Just as important as the physical training is the mental aspect
of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Learning something so new takes patience and understanding.  DO NOT get down on
yourself for not being able to properly execute a technique at this stage in your training.
That's why we have to practice, over and over and over again!

HAVING FUN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF LEARNING JIU-JITSU!

Prof. Brian

Still having difficulty believing in the effectiveness of jiu-jitsu.  See the news piece which talks about
the kid who placed a choke (rear-naked choke) on a pitbull who was attacking a friend.  The kid was able to
keep the dog under control for 20 minutes until animal control and the police arrived.  You may be able to check it out on YOUTUBE.

Instructing the Youth members on their PERSONAL responsibility to use good judgment and
behavior during school and class.  Although we are teaching self-defense we are also molding
young men and women into becoming good people.  We continually stress this aspect of
our program to the kids as well as the parents.  Our students are learning a skill which will
stay with them for the rest of their lives....we have to add a little bit of life-skills into the mix.
Being in Law Enforcement...I know that NOW is the time to get and keep their attention!

Remember:  Beginning January 3rd, 2009 we will begin our third day of training for the Youth program.
Starting at 11am SHARP!

Speak with Professor or one of the Coaches about the change in the curriculum.

The Youth Program is growing...

NEW CLASS SCHEDULE

Parents:  The PRE-REGISTRATION is over for this program.  Registration fee is still the same but you will no longer receive the uniform with the school patches sewn on.  Ask about our special rate for uniforms complete with school patches.

It has taken awhile to get started but we are ready to start our Youth Jiu-Jitsu program on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 5:00p.  Check for the change in the schedule guys.

The Youth program actually started over the summer with our Jiu-Jitsu program, which was instructed by Coach Jesse Briggs at the Middle School here in Burlington Township.  The program was well received by all who participated and Prof. Brian and Jordan went to the school to conduct a demo and meet with the parents.

Due to the outstanding instruction by Coach Jesse, many of the parents expressed interest in continuing the jiu-jitsu training for their children.

“We believe that jiu-jitsu is more practical and efficient in terms of self-defense and overall physical fitness.  Our kids will be prepared both mentally and physically.  We are extremely excited about the program and are looking forward to getting started.”
Prof. Brian
